Description

JFK 40% silver coins, also known as Kennedy half dollars, were issued by the United States Mint in 1965 through 1970. These coins were minted as a tribute to President John F. Kennedy following his assassination in 1963. They replaced the Franklin half dollar in circulation.

The coins contain 40% silver and 60% copper, which was a significant reduction in silver content compared to earlier coins. This reduction was due to the rising price of silver at the time, which made it economically impractical to continue minting coins with higher silver content.

The obverse (front) of the coin features a bust of President Kennedy, designed by Gilroy Roberts. The reverse (back) of the coin features the presidential coat of arms.

JFK half dollars are still produced today, but they are primarily made for collectors and not commonly found in circulation. The silver content of these coins makes them attractive to collectors and investors alike, though their numismatic value can vary based on factors such as condition, rarity, and mint mark.
